جُمهور الشاشة

رأى العالمُ "ملايين" تشيّع خامنئي، لكنّ الحشد كان على الشاشة أكثرَ منه في الشارع. الحضورُ فُرض على الموظفين والطلاب، وهُدِّد التجار بإغلاق محالّهم إن فتحوها أيام الحداد. وقيل لعوائل المعتقلين إنّ نجاة أبنائهم من السجن أو الإعدام مشروطةٌ بالظهور في مسيرات النظام. ثم حُشِد الباقي بالطلاب المنقولين بالحافلات وبزوّارٍ أجانب لملء الساحات أمام الكاميرا. وحين لم تكفِ الحشود، ضخّمها الإعلامُ الرسمي، فأعلن ثلاثة ملايين في ساحةٍ قدّر المدقّقون أنها لا تتّسع لأكثر من أربعمئة إلى خمسمئة ألف، أي سبعة أضعاف الكذب، مع لقطاتٍ جوّيةٍ مفبركة. الحقيقةُ أنّ لإيران مؤيّدين حقيقيين، لكنّ النظام لا يثق بعددهم، فيُكرِه ويَصنع الباقي على الشاشة. ونظامٌ يصنع جمهوره على شاشة ويسوق شعبه بالإكراه ليس قويّاً، بل خائف.

The world saw "millions" mourn Khamenei, but the crowd was on the screen more than in the street. Attendance was forced on public employees and students, and shopkeepers were threatened with having their shops sealed if they opened during the mourning days. Families of detainees were told their children's survival, from prison or execution, depended on appearing in the regime's marches. The rest was padded with bussed-in students and foreign pilgrims to fill the squares for the cameras. And when the crowds still fell short, state media inflated them, claiming three million in a square fact-checkers measured at 400,000 to 500,000, roughly seven times the lie, with doctored aerial footage. The truth is Iran does have genuine supporters, but the regime doesn't trust their number, so it coerces and manufactures the rest on screen. A regime that builds its crowd on a screen and drives its people by force isn't strong. It's afraid.
