الهدية الثالثة في السلسلة. بوش أهدى إيران العراق، وأوباما أهداها الاتفاق والمال، ثم جاء عهد بايدن بهديةٍ من نوعٍ آخر: غضّ النظر. تراخى تطبيق العقوبات على النفط الإيراني فتضاعفت الصادرات ثلاث مرات لتتجاوز 1.5 مليون برميل يومياً، وقفزت العائدات من 16 مليار دولار سنة 2020 إلى 53 ملياراً سنة 2023، وتضاعفت المبيعات إلى الصين أربع مرات. وفوق ذلك: إعفاءاتٌ متجددة لمدفوعات العراق، وستة مليارات أُفرج عنها في صفقة تبادل السجناء عبر قطر. لم يوقّع بايدن اتفاقاً ولم يرفع عقوبة، فقط أغمض عينيه، وكان الإغماض وحده يساوي عشرات المليارات.

The third gift in the series. Bush handed Iran Iraq, Obama handed it the deal and the cash, then came the Biden years with a different kind of gift: looking away. Sanctions enforcement on Iranian oil slackened, exports tripled past 1.5 million barrels per day, revenue jumped from 16 billion dollars in 2020 to 53 billion in 2023, and sales to China quadrupled. On top of that came rolling waivers for Iraq's payments and six billion dollars unfrozen in the Qatar prisoner swap. Biden signed no agreement and lifted no sanction. He simply closed his eyes, and the closing alone was worth tens of billions.
