الرمال المتحركة

لم تعدِ الولاياتُ المتحدةُ تحاولُ اسقاطَ إيرانَ بالقصف, بل اختارت ان تقفَ على الحافةِ وتدعَ اقتصادَها يغرقُ. قال ترامب انه "يبقيها هادئةً" ويدعُ الضغطَ الاقتصاديَّ يتصاعدُ بدلاً من هجومٍ جديد, وان طهرانَ تخافُ الخزانةَ اكثرَ من الجيش. امامَه خياران: ان يقصفَها فيوحّدَ شعبَها خلفَها, او ان يدعَها تغرقُ وحدَها, فاختارَ الرمال. يغرقُ اولاً النفطُ (خرج التي تصدّرُ نحو تسعينَ بالمئةِ من الصادرات, وارصفتُها معطّلةٌ تحتَ الحصار), ثم العملةُ (الريالُ يقتربُ من مليونينِ للدولار, تضخمٌ فوقَ ثمانينَ بالمئة, مؤشرُ بؤسٍ هو الاعلى في تاريخِ إيران), ثم الاطرافُ (اورمية زالت, نهرُ اصفهانَ جفّ, وخوزستانُ تنتجُ النفطَ وتموتُ عطشاً). وليبقى النظامُ طافياً يقفُ على شعبِه: رفعَ الدعمَ فتضاعفَ الخبزُ, وسحبَ مدخراتِهم ليموّلَ نفسَه. لكنها رمالٌ بطيئة: هذا استنزافٌ لا انهيارٌ فجائيٌّ, والنظامُ ما زال يمسكُ بالقوة, والغريقُ قد يجرُّ جيرانَه معه.

The US has stopped trying to bomb Iran into surrender , it now stands at the edge and lets the economy sink. Trump said he is "low keying it," letting economic pressure mount instead of a new offensive, and officials say Tehran fears Treasury more than the Pentagon. He had two ways to break Iran , bomb it and unite its people behind it, or let it sink alone , and he chose the sand. The oil sinks first (Kharg, ~90% of exports, idled by the blockade), then the currency (rial nearing 2 million, inflation over 80%, a record misery index, ~40 million below the poverty line), then the regions (Urmia gone, Isfahan's river dried, Khuzestan producing oil while dying of thirst). To stay afloat the regime stands on its own people. But the sand is slow: this is depletion, not overnight collapse, the regime still holds by force, and a drowning regime may drag its neighbors down with it.
