هل خليجنا واحد؟ (٢): قطر

شبه جزيرةٍ صغيرة تحوّلت إلى العنوان الذي يقصده العالم حين تنهار كل الجسور. تستضيف قطر أكبر قاعدة أمريكية في الشرق الأوسط، قاعدة العُديد ومقرّ القيادة المركزية وعشرة آلاف جندي، وفي الوقت نفسه تفتح أبوابها لمن يفاوضون أمريكا. عنوانٌ واحد يثق به الجميع. تحت بحرها أكبر حقل غازٍ في العالم، حقل الشمال الذي تتقاسمه مع إيران، ثروةٌ منحتها استقلال القرار وفرضت عليها فنّ الحوار مع الجار. ولأنها تتكلم مع الكل، صارت طاولة العالم: أمريكا طلبت منها استضافة طالبان فخرج اتفاقٌ أنهى أطول حروبها، وعلى طاولتها تحرّرت رهائن غزة، واليوم تجلس واشنطن وطهران في الدوحة لإنهاء الحرب. لم يكن هذا صدفة. اختار الشيخ تميم بن حمد لقطر دور الجسر بين المتخاصمين، فحوّل صِغَر المساحة إلى عظمة الدور. وهذه الطاولة خليجية: يوم يحتاج الجميع أن يجلسوا مع إيران، يكون الباب عندنا، في الدوحة كما في مسقط. عُمان تمسك المضيق، وقطر تمسك الطاولة، وكلٌّ منا يحمل ورقةً تحمي البقية.

A small peninsula became the address the world turns to when every bridge collapses. Qatar hosts Al-Udeid, the largest US base in the Middle East and CENTCOM's forward HQ with 10,000 troops, and at the same time keeps its doors open to America's adversaries. One address everyone trusts. Beneath its waters lies the world's largest gas field, the North Field shared with Iran, the wealth that bought it an independent voice and forced it to master dialogue over enmity. Because it talks to everyone, it became the world's table: the US asked it to host the Taliban, producing the deal that ended America's longest war; Gaza's hostages were freed at its table; and today Washington and Tehran sit in Doha to end the war. None of this was chance, the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad chose the role of bridge and turned smallness into greatness. And this table is Gulf-owned: when all sides need to sit with Iran, the door is ours, in Doha as in Muscat.
